Statue of Flora MacDonald

Flora MacDonald coincidently was the name of my current Member of Parliament (1979 to 1980 and 1984 to 1988)so found it interesting to find a statue of someone with same name. Perhaps she (MP Flora) was named after her.

Flora MacDonald (1722 – 5 March 1790) was a member of the Macdonalds of Sleat, who helped Charles Edward Stuart evade government troops after the Battle of Culloden in April 1746. She died in 1790 at the age of 68 and was buried in Kilmuir Cemetery, her husband following in September 1792. Flora MacDonald, was heroine of the Jacobites - and the subject of the folk song "Over the sea to Skye." 82060301
