Amazing views. Quite a bit cooler, glad I took a jacket. This was my last day in Aberystwyth, could think of no better way to have spent it.
The soil in this area of Surrey contains a sandstone top layer with a layer of impermeable clay beneath. There is a line of springs between the two layers which led to erosion of the sandstone top, resulting in the distinctive depression known as the Devil's Punch Bowl. Legend describes it differently however: the devil dug up the earth to hurl at the Norse God of Thunder Thor. The punch in the name refers to the mist which appears to flow over the top of the bowl. 82060721
