23:59 June 10 Victoria Station
After all the touring, I headed to the local pub with Bob Wooler and met up with a group of his friends. We played "Beatle trivia", sang songs, had a pint, or two, and just lost tract of time. Last direct train to London was 8:30 p.m. It was 8:25!
A girl I met, Pat knew every shortcut to the station, so we ran. (I had checked my luggage that morning, thankfully.) Didn't make it! My pass expired at midnight. What a dilemna. But, then the train clerk found a route. Via Crewe.
If I caught the 21:00 to Crewe and changed for the 23:59 to Victoria, I'd be okay... And, with literally one minute to spare, the conductor on the Crewe-London train validated my ticket. Made it back to Victoria about 01:30.
Actually don't remember where I stayed but called Judith in the morning to say I arrived back safely. (Just think, today I'd have sent an email or text immediately.)
