She fulfilled a childhood dream when she restored Pendragon Castle, the Mallerstang ruin linked to legends of King Arthur, and spent Christmas 1663 there. She renovated Brough and Brougham castles, restored Appleby Castle's Norman keep, and built the St Anne's Hospital almshouses for widows in Appleby. She also restored Civil War damage to Skipton Castle.
Lady Anne built these homes in 1651 for the widows of the many men who worked in or on the estate and castle. Until today, these decedents live rent free. On one condition: they all must attend Wednesday mass. 82060620
